“Dear citizens of Tatarstan!
I sincerely congratulate you on the national holiday – the Fatherland Defender’s Day, reflecting the special role of the Army in history and today of our country. The Russian Armed Forces date back many centuries. The current soldiers are worthy successors of valor and glory Alexander Nevsky’s legendary warriors and troops, regiments of Peter the Great and genius Suvorov, soldiers of 1812.
However, among many dates of military glory the day of the 23rd of February takes a special place, when the workers'-and-peasants' Red Army was established 100 years ago. Being people’s own flesh and blood, it continued and enriched many proud traditions of our armed forces. The Fatherland Defender’s Day assumes more comprehensive meaning in modern Russia. New types of armed struggle, re-equipment of the army, introduction of the contract military service are rapidly reshaping the military personnel, the content of combat training.
Great attention has always been paid to increasing the prestige of military service, training of young people to fulfill their military duty, and developing of patronage relations with units and garrisons. These and other areas of military-patriotic work are in the zone of constant attention of the state and civil society. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of our veterans to this work.
We are rightly proud that the Kazan Higher Tank Command Red Banner School and the Suvorov Military School which have brought many thousands of faithful sons of Fatherland are in Kazan.
Recently, due to the decisions of Russian President - Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Vladimir Putin, much has been done for the development of defence complex of our republic.
Strategic bombers, helicopter gunships and combatant crafts, automotive vehicles, other examples of advanced weapons manufactured in Tatarstan plants, contribute to further strengthening the defence capability of Russia and are our efficient answer to all external threats and challenges.
From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate the honoured veterans, our valiant soldiers, all of you, dear Tatarstan citizens on the Fatherland Defender’s Day and wish you strength, self-confidence, good health and well-being.
Tatarstan President, Rustam Minnikhanov”.
